Joker was the direct cause of the events of Injustice. After killing fellow psychopath Jonathan Crane, Joker stole Scarecrow’s fear toxin&dumped his body in STAR Labs. There, he murdered several scientists who’d been experimenting on kryptonite. Luring Superman’s wife&bestie to the Metropolis docks, Joker killed Jimmy&happily greeted a terrified Lois. He hijacked a nuclear submarine that he took far out into open sea. When the superhuman community learned his location, Superman was first on the scene, scuttling the sub&tearing the hull open. Joker&Harley operated on Lois as the Man of Steel bursted into the sub, but before he could do anything, Joker gassed him with fear toxin laced with kryptonite. Superman suddenly saw Doomsday&tackled the monster into the sky. Joker told Quinn it was time to go, but they were pinned down by Green Lantern. Batman arrived&Joker was overjoyed to see his nemesis. When Batman investigated the sub and found nothing, he demanded to know where Lane was. Joker revealed he performed an operation on Lane to turn her into a “trigger.” He also placed the sub’s warhead in Metropolis, having attached it to Lane’s heartbeat. Batman figured out the situation too late to warn Superman. The toxin wore off&Superman realized he took his wife&their unborn child into space, their two heartbeats stopping at once. Joker&Quinn watched in glee as Metropolis was destroyed. Joker was locked up for interrogation with Batman, who wanted to know why he went so far as to take everything from Superman. He responded that he didn’t need a reason to do it, enraging Batman. Joker replied that he always lost against Batman, so he’d try to play his games on an easier level. The Clown Prince asked, “What do you think Superman will become?” His nemesis firmly believed Superman was incorruptible. Joker laughed&replied grimly, “No. I think it’s going to be a whole lot funnier than that.” Moments later, Superman broke through the wall, shoved Batman aside, and grabbed Joker. The Clown Prince exhaled a final laugh as Superman impaled him with his arm&Joker died with a smile.
